Cantu Elementary School Home

Principal's Message

Dear Arturo Cantu Elementary Families and Friends,

I am honored to join the Cantu family and work with the amazing staff here. At our school, students are learners today, leaders tomorrow! Our mission at Cantu is to prepare our students to be independent, life-long learners and productive citizens of the world by providing safe, stimulating, and challenging educational experiences. We will continue to put students first in everything we do. Our school is committed to the individual needs of our students. We are dedicated to improving student performance, teacher instruction and the enhancement of knowledge and skills required for working, living and learning in our ever-changing society.

This year, our school’s Campus Improvement Plan focuses on raising our students’ academic and linguistic proficiency. At Cantu we work together as a TEAM - Together Everyone Achieves More. As a TEAM, we know our school will be able to excel. I firmly believe that a home/school partnership is necessary for the success of all of our students. Research and experience shows us that a parent’s/guardian’s involvement in a child’s education is directly related to his/her success in school. To maximize your child’s success, emphasize the importance of education through the following:
• Ensure that your child is at school on time each day.
• Attend parent/teacher conferences and school events.
• Monitor your child’s homework daily.
• Expect and support positive behavior at school.
• Read with your child or encourage your child to read daily.

In addition, there are numerous volunteer opportunities in which we welcome you to become involved. We, as a school, know we need our partnerships with parents and the community and believe these resources keep us strong. Together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish! You, as parents, are the most critical part of our school success. You take an active and crucial role in providing an atmosphere that promotes education and quality work habits. Your support provides the foundation for students to come ready to learn.
As the principal, my goal is to work with the students, parents, and staff to ensure that the Cantu Elementary experience will cultivate a love of learning while at the same time setting high expectations and creating a caring community for all students. I am always available to answer any of your questions or concerns. You can call me at (956) 323-7400.

Again, thanks for visiting and Go Blue Jays! Together, we will be successful!!

Sincerely,
Enrique Alvarez, Principal

Blue Jay Pride at the MCISD Convocation 2024!

As we prepare for the new school year, teachers and staff come together for the MCISD District Convocation. There was so much Blue Jay spirit at the event! There were multiple performances and presentations going on during the event. Elementary students from all across the district were selected by their music teachers to participate in this event. We want to congratulate our very own Blue Jays, Leeanna F. and Bella T., for participating in this event and representing Cantu Elementary! They did a wonderful job singing in the District Choir! Go Blue Jays! 💙🎉🎵🎶
